Starting this week I will begin incorporating "Mommy Mondays" blog posts with my "Motivational Mondays" blog posts. I had contemplated throughout my pregnancy on doing a mommy blog but with lots of other ventures going on with my fitness clients, I just felt it really didn't fit with my schedule. I love taking the time to post, write, invest, & respond to my blog & I didn't want the mommy blog to suffer!
But....after my post last week about my birth with Logan, I received an overwhelming response of love & requests for posting a mommy blog. I told myself that if by the end of the week that post had more than 500 views that I would carve out some time to make my mommy blog a priority....well thanks guys!! We hit 500 views by Thursday...so now a promise must be kept. :)
On this mommy blog I will post on Mondays, alternating with my fitness blog & sometimes on the same Mondays. I will post all my thoughts on motherhood, the ups & downs, things we are doing as a family, our routines, & some post-pregnancy fitness. I will base my posts like I do my fitness posts, by the number of emails i receive with feedback & by the number of views on each particular post.
I have been overjoyed & feel so blessed when I receive emails & messages about how my post helped someone out when they were struggling with something fitness related or when my post helped someone get that last little motivational push towards their goal. I am anxious & excited to start this mommy blog & hope that it will help some other mommies out there. :)
I am continuing to work on my next eBook which is called "The belly Journey". This is a fitness eBook that talks about pre-pregnancy fitness & nutrition, maternity, & post-pregnancy fitness & nutrition. Currently, I am wrapping up the post-pregnancy portion & should have it published for the new year.
So.....here is to all you mommies out there.....new mommies, pregnant mommies, first time mommies, single mommies, married mommies, toddler mommies, stay at home mommies, & working mommies. I hope you love the new blog!!!!
What better way to start it off? The first week of being a mommy!
Well, for those that are new to me & my blog, I am a new mom to a beautiful little prince named Logan. This is the first child for me & my husband & our little man was well planned. :) We currently travel 9 months out of the year for my husband (who is referred to as "Zo") & his basketball career. Our home base is in Houston Texas & we love it there.
Our little Logan was conceived this February & was born on his due date which was November 14 2014. It is a laughable thing that he was born this day because only about 6% of babies are born on their due dates. Leave it to the little guy that has a very structured, OCD, scheduling queen of a mother to arrive so timely. :) (I secretly love this!). We are currently in Bremerhaven, Germany & that is where our little guy was born. (He is a USA citizen & carries an international birth certificate)
Little Logan was named this because it is 1/2 of my husband & I.
My husband: LOrenzo & me: morGAN.
Together we form LOGAN.
His middle name is Jacob, which is the first name of his uncle.
I already wrote last week about my experience through labor & delivery. Overall, I could not have asked for a better experience. I received my epidural in a timely manner for pain management, the midwife was very supportive & communicated so well to help me push through to deliver, my husband & mother were so supportive the whole process, our recovery room & hospital stay were comfortable, private, & calm.
We delivered Friday morning & left the hospital Sunday afternoon once the pediatrician cleared Logan & I. From the very beginning I was breastfeeding Logan. I had decided during pregnancy that as long as Logan took my milk, I would use it! And boy does he know how to latch!!! I was very blessed to have a little guy that took to my breast immediately & knew what he was doing. Although, he was a little rough & these breasts have taken quite a beating, he is happy & full. Our little guy hasn't lost any weight his first week. He has gone from 7.8 pounds at birth to 7.11 pounds, & today is at 7.15 pounds. He is on a pretty good feeding schedule & eats every 3-4 hours. I have him on a 1 breast schedule. This means that at each feeding, I nurse for 15-20 minutes on one breast, burp him, & the feeding is done. The next feeding, I nurse him on the opposite breast for the same amount of time. He is quite small & always seems to get ample amounts of milk. I always thought he would need to eat a larger amount at each feed, but for now; this is what works for us.
Since being home...we sleep, eat, & poop!! :) Logan really is a great baby & he rarely fusses & cries. I have noticed that throughout the day he is very relaxed & calm. At about 8-9pm he starts to fuss a little & it seems to be tummy aches. He struggles at this time everyday. This is the time my mommy strings are pulled and i feel so sad for my baby boy. I can see in his little red face that he is trying to go to the bathroom & his little belly is in pain. After 15-20 minutes, the gas comes & he quiets down. ITS OVER! phew!! :)
He is sleeping through the night very well, just waking to feed for the most part. From midnight to 9 am he has 2-3 feedings & is pretty relaxed or sleeping when he isn't feeding.
We have been SO blessed to have my mommy here with us to help with Logan. I do not know how we would have gotten through this first week without her. She is the best at taking the night shift to keep an eye on our little one. Since my husband practices usually about 6-7 hours a day, he is pretty exhausted. Daddy gets his rest during the day & mommy gets her rest at night...or in between feedings! :)
Overall, we are managing great here at home. Logan is slowly adjusting & we are too!!
After next week, I will begin supplementing with bottles. I will continue breastfeeding & will pump my milk for the bottles. Logan will be strictly fed my milk but I am anxious for the bottle so that my sweet husband can be apart of this special bond. We will start out with just 1 bottle a day & go from there. That will be another blog post! :)
I would love to hear your new mom adventures! feel free to email, Facebook message, or direct message me with your thoughts. I would also love to hear any topics that you would like for me to blog about.
Tune in next week for my "mommy essentials" post.
Love,
Morgan
