Good morning readers & happy Monday! This week is thanksgiving week & many of you will be traveling to see friends & family & feasting on some delicious food!
It is only fitting that I write this weeks blog on playing it safe for thanksgiving and not over stuffing your face!
The average person will consume a total of over 4,000 calories on thanksgiving day!!! What????? Yes, you heard that right!! You all know that my motto is clean eating but allowing yourself some treats here & there. But the holidays is where people go overboard...and 4,000 calories is NOT a treat....its overboard!!!!
So...let's find a better way to enjoy the treats of thanksgiving without having leftovers in your fridge & your belly!
Fit before feast: before you head over to aunt Sally's house for turkey, take a jog around your neighborhood or head to the gym. Grab your whole family & take a walk together. Burn some calories before you indulge! Strive for an hour. Many cities in America love a good 5k turkey trot. This is a great way to support a good cause & get in some cardio in the morning. If you are the cook...think of what can be prepared on Wednesday to save an hour or 2 for Thursday so you can join in on the exercise!
Football fitness: so you can probably count on a football game being watched this thanksgiving after the feast! How about you make it fun? Play an interactive game while the real one is playing. For every touchdown the opposing team scores=25 push ups, for an interception= 30 sit ups, etc. get everyone involved. Ladies....don't want to watch the game? Take a walk through the neighborhood & grab some fresh air & burn some calories! :)
Eat before: grab some high fiber vegetables, a salad, or some protein before you leave to go eat thanksgiving dinner. Don't go into the big meal starving.
Watch your plate: when it comes time to fill your plate up, watch your portions! Fill at least 1/2 of your plate with vegetables (not the ones covered in sauces & carbs), make sure you are watching your starches, grab the lean meat with no sauce. Choose a dessert but make sure you are enjoying a conscious portion. Skip the bread & the rolls!
Leave the leftovers!!!!
Enjoy your thanksgiving & do your best to stay on track. You have worked so hard on your fitness...don't let one day ruin your progress! You can indulge without overdoing!
Be blessed...this Thanksgiving my family & I have so much to be thankful for & we are especially thankful for our newborn son this year! :)
