The Williams family takes 2016

Hello January & hello 2016. We aren't too into making "resolutions", but we do love setting goals a few times a year. Big ones that will take all year to achieve & smaller ones we can attain within a few weeks or months.

What's the difference?

Goals--are specific things you want to achieve in a certain time period. When you are done, that's it! You move on to the next goal.

Resolutions--these are designed to be life changes. No end goal in mind, you just want to change them in your life to make it better, less stressful, happier, etc.

Resolution: I will no longer eat junk food.
Goal: I want to lose 25 pounds this year.

They both are good things to have, but it takes a lot of effort to stick to your goals. I personally prefer goals because I have to work hard to attain them in a certain time frame. It keeps me more motivated then resolutions usually do.

At the first of the year it is important to bring yourself together physically, spiritually & mentally. Resolutions can be very beneficial in achieving this.

I won't share with you all of our goals for the year (we have quite a few), but 2 things we do every year that I want to share are these...

1. A wish list. This is my favorite. Every year we make a list of about 10 things that we personally would love to have. This could be big things like a new watch, jewelry, or nice bag. There's also some small things on the list like Starbucks gift cards, a kid free evening, manicure & pedicure, a professional spa day, etc.

After we complete the list, we share it with each other. This gets uploaded in our notes on our phone (so it can be edited if we find something else we want to add). This way, for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, etc, we don't have to ask what the other wants we just surprise each other with something off the wish list.

My favorite gift I am hoping to get in 2016 is a new professional camera (it's been a while since my last one).

2. A fitness goal together. My husband & I have very different fitness goals. He is a professional athlete & weighs a little more than me :) & I am working on abs (that he already has!)

But, we love working out together & there are several things we can work towards together. This year we have decided that the magic cardio number is

1,200!!!!!

This might seem like a small number for a year but this is basically running a 5K a day for the whole year. We both will be doing this, so together we will have at least 2,400 miles by 2017!

This goal is easily attainable & doesn't have to be done specifically per day or outside on a track. We have the treadmill, the court, & 365 days to do it. If we miss a day, we make it up the next day.

I'm excited for this goal because I'm still trying to lose some weight/fat & cardio is the best way! This doesn't include my daily walks with the stroller or through the mall. These 1,200 miles have to come from specific times that we set aside to run.

We've created a new yearly budget, some goals for parenting & our marriage, & I've got some personal goals to work on also.

2016 is going to be a great year, we always pray for that in the new year. With lots of sadness & pain in the world, we hope to be a little light for Jesus as best as we can. Praying for our sweet baby boy to stay protected & healthy as well.

So cheers to a new year & some new goals, or resolutions; whatever works for you!
