Many people dislike cardio, but they often have misconceptions on all of what cardio involves...when many envision cardio they think running on the treadmill for an hour...boring!!! And I agree, that gets boring very easily! But there are so many options when it comes to cardio, so let me give you a few...
1. Elliptical machine
2. Spin class
3. Aerobic classes
4. Bicycle
5. Row machine
6. Outdoor jogging
7. Outdoor hiking/trail bike riding
8. Swimming
These are just a few great ways to get in your cardio without standing on the treadmill for an hour...although I will say, performing intervals on the treadmill is an amazing cardio workout and burns lots of fat and calories!!
Although you may not enjoy cardio or the time it takes to perform it, cardio is so essential to your healthy living journey and your joints and muscles.
Cardio #1 raises our heart rate, gets the blood flowing and aids in heart health, brain functioning, and energy levels!
Cardio #2 helps strengthen your bones and your muscles. This helps prevent disease such as osteoporosis and helps strengthen your total skeletal system.
Cardio #3 helps boost your immune system. Cardio helps clear infection and bacteria in the body, especially in the lungs. Sweating and increased blood flow aid in elimination of these toxins in the system.
Cardio #4 is my favorite! Because cardio burns fat!! Want to lose weight or appear more muscular, find those muscles under that fat through cardio exercises!!! Those abs are there, just under your fat...cardio reduces the fat in your entire body to lean you completely out.
Cardio #5 aids in sleep and hormone balance...During cardio, when blood flows through the body and brain, chemicals are released that directly relate to mood and energy. Feel better, look better, act better..cardio...I'm in!
These are just a few of many cardio exercises that are available and their benefits. So although cardio might seem a little boring, suck it up buttercup....it's so worth it!!!
****Aim for a minimum of 30 min per day of cardio****
My cardio today
30 minute interval elliptical
1 hour weightlifting
15 minute circuit
15 minute abs
