Motivational Monday's---PURPOSE

Psalm 20:4
"May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed."

Since this weekend was Father's Day & we celebrated my husband & how much we appreciate him, it also got me sitting down on an airplane, sleeping baby & lots of time to finally write a post about something that has laid heavy on my heart & mind but I hadn't quite been able to put in words.

My husbands purpose.

When I met my husband in college we were just friends. He was on the basketball team, I enjoyed watching basketball & the rest is really history. Throughout our friendship I learned that Lorenzo had no desire for basketball to end. He had lots of goals, dreams, desires and plans...and they ALL involved basketball.

After college, the D-league, some training & his first season overseas, his goals never changed. Ultimately, my husband knew his purpose in life. It was to play basketball until he couldn't anymore & after that, something that still involved the game he loves so much.

It brings me to tears, literally. Here we are..a DECADE later. This is the big 10, double digits, the big 1-0!!! My husband will begin season TEN of his professional career in basketball & I couldn't be more proud. But the tears are not for just this reason. The tears are because of ALL he has done in this amount of time.

I can brag about the accomplishments, the awards, the championships, the MVP's, the experiences, all of which are quite amazing. But what I most admire, respect, love, cherish & look up to is my husbands accomplishments on the court that reflect his character & heart. His passion, desire & purpose has all come together in a way we can only describe as God's way...which means he is fulfilling the purpose GOD has for him, not just the purpose he set out to fulfill for himself.

Let me explain...

My husband is a point guard. In the game of basketball, that means a few things. First, you are probably the smallest on the court. Second, you help everyone else look good (you pass, you call plays, you find the open person, etc.). Third, it's probably the least glamorous (and caught on camera) position.

Every play that is made, starts with Zo. Every dunk & slick pass most likely comes from Zo's hands but never ends with his name being called. The big men get the dunk because Zo passes it to them. The wingmen get the wide open 3 pointer because Zo passes, and the small forward gets the floater because Zo drives in and swoops it over to them. He works extremely hard but not much of his name is mentioned.

Does Zo really care about this? No, but I do & God does.

You see...God has called my husband to be successfully humble, to make others shine, to guide a younger teammate, to be the "floor general" and lead the pack from behind the scenes, to quietly motion a play for the dunk that wins the game, to spend hours off the court in meetings & video with coaches about new plays & direction of the team.

You see, God has taken my husband, an ordinary guy, from a small town in Texas and has given him the gift of fulfilling his purpose and HIS purpose at the same time. He has given him TEN years to do this. To sometimes hurt, get down, not understand, have fear and failure. He has given him ten years to obey, trust, have faith, have strength and success. He has given him sights and views from around the world, a home, a family and stability.

For life is so much bigger than basketball, and as we approach TEN years, my husband & I have talked about and remain in awe of what God has shown us both. What God has for you NO man can take from you. When you are fulfilling your purpose based on faith, prayer, praise, and understanding you will see nothing but good.

What's even more amazing? God has perfect timing. God's purpose for Lorenzo also allows me to fulfill my purpose too. He never makes mistakes. I know that God placed Lorenzo & I together intentionally. His plans are for our good, we can work together in fulfilling our dreams & goals. God created our team & is showing out big time!

We trust that God will continue showing my husband his purpose moving forward & for the next 10 years!

I am so incredibly proud of the amazing father my husband is and the great husband & leader of our home he is as well. I am so proud that he follows God's purpose for his life, trusting that he can be used even when it seems like he isn't. Life has not always been easy, these last years have been full of the true definition of FAITH. But one thing remains, God has never left us, He has always blessed us, and He continues to speak to us.

Following Him isn't always easy but is IS always worth it.
