Good morning mamas! & happy Monday. This past weekend I traveled for the first time alone with Logan & took him on his first plane ride. We went from Bremen Germany to Riga Latvia & the flight was about 2 hours. I just wanted to give you all some of my tips that I learned & used.
Traveling with an infant is never a piece of cake & traveling alone really had me nervous! Logan did so great, I don't even know why I was worried.
1. Be prepared--this is my number 1 tip. Be prepared for anything & everything, even if that means overpacking. I packed extra bottles, wipes, formula, clothes, changing pads, & his lotions & creams. I am traveling back home with a ton of "leftover" items but better safe than sorry.
2. Give him any piece of home. Logan slept in a travel crib while we were in Latvia & he did great in it. I brought his bed sheet & blanket from home so that he would be laying on a familiar smell. I brought his favorite little rattle toy as well. Having some familiarity was really good for him.
3. Wear your baby- Logan traveled through the airport in his baby bjorn. This was so convenient, especially since airport security makes you remove the infant from the car seat & fold up your stroller. It would have pretty much been impossible to do all that if I had to hold him & our luggage. It was also really convenient when we were on the plane. I was able to be hands free to prep a bottle, put our luggage in the overhead bins, & get his seat situated.
4. Pack for all weather. The report said it would be cloudy with a slight chance of rain...the day we boarded the plane it was pouring rain & we had to board outside (common for European flights). I had my jacket with hood as well as a hooded jacket for Logan & poncho blanket for him also. We both stayed dry & cozy.
5. Stay clean! Traveling with a small ️baby, I wanted to make sure & do all I could to keep him well & from getting sick. The seasons are changing so spring allergies, cold, & flu are all over! We personally use essential oils for lots of things & I brought along my allergy & immunity mix for myself & Logan. They are in 1oz roller bottles so they are able to be brought on board. I also brought nose saline with the nose sucker & was constantly keeping his nose & ears clean. I had hand sanitizer for myself & was wiping Logans hands with wipes often. I also had him in onesies where the hands can be covered. This way he can't get his little fingers into anything. I kept a hat on his head most of the time to cover his ears also.
6. Suck---im sure you all have been told this but it helped Logan a lot to suck on this bottle during take off & landing. He wasn't really hungry but I could tell it was comforting for him to just relieve that pressure. At one point in the air he woke up from sleeping & tugged on his ear & cried....I gave him the bottle & he passed back out.
I'm so proud of my sweet little 4 month old for being such a big boy. He adjusted to changing time zones & then our clocks sprang forward last night as well!!
He went to everyone who wanted to hold him without hesitation & he stayed on a good sleep/nap schedule.
In 2 weeks we will travel to America & that will be another adventure! This was a great travel run for me & I feel much more at ease & prepared to travel alone with him again.
Any advice you guys have from traveling with little ones? Shoot me a message or email!
Hope you all have a wonderful week. My heart is so full from seeing friends I have missed so much! :)
